Ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge: Irish Translation Workshop

Join Tomás Ó Maolalaidh, as he guides us through the process of translating a text from English to Irish!

Is léachtóir le haistriúchán agus le foclóireacht é Tomás Ó Maolalaidh, atá ag obair le hAcadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge in Ollscoil na Gaillimhe ó 2008 i leith. Sa cheardlann seo, tá scagadh déanta ar ghnéithe den aistriúchán agus de chúrsaí gramadaí. Pléadh ceisteanna gramadaí, ceisteanna tearmaíochta, ceisteanna canúna agus ceisteanna comhréire.

Tomás Ó Maolalaidh is a lecturer in translation and lexicography, and he has been working with Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, at the University of Galway, since 2008. In this workshop, aspects of translation and grammar are analysed. Grammatical questions, terminology questions, dialectical questions and syntax questions are all discussed.

A Brief History of the Irish Language

Join Santiago Rial for a whistle-stop tour through the origins, characteristics and story of ‘An Ghaeilge’! We begin with the first proto-Gaelic speakers, to the development of Old and Middle Irish in the Middle Ages, to its zenith, decline and rebirth.

Decolonization of the Gaelic Mind

In this workshop with Conchobhar Ruadh, we will explore the ways in which colonization has affected us mentally, and how we can begin reclaiming our unique heritage and language. We will discuss different opinions regarding the colonization of Ireland and the possibility that our own minds are colonized today. Many people have a bad relationship with our native language, but hopefully you will have a better understanding of our native language and culture by the end of this workshop.

She has worked as a freelance reporter for publications such as Nós, and is busy producer of digital content on social media platforms. This workshop is a unique peak behind the curtains of Irish radio, as well as an opportunity for learners to gather tips and tricks for improving their Irish!
