Fáilte go 2017!

Athbhliain Faoi Shéan & Faoi Mhaise Daoibh!

The Irish for ‘New Year’s resolution’ is rún na hAthbhliana. For example, you could say: Tá sé mar rún na hAthbhliana agam dul ag rith níos minicí (go running more often), éirigh as na toitíní (stop smoking) nó tosnú ag sabháil don cuairt sin chuig Graceland (begin saving for that trip to Graceland)! However, you may also find yourself saying Tá sé mar rún na hAthbhliana agam dul go dtí Ranganna Gaeilge – My New Year’s Resolution is to go to Irish classes! Indeed, for many people in Ireland and across the world, a common favourite is ‘Tá sé mar rún na hAthbhliana agam níos mó a bhaint as mo chuid Gaeilge i mbliana‘ – to make more use of my Irish!

Now’s your chance – Irish classes begin Thursday, Jan 5th!

2017 promises to be another busy year of classes and social events for Irish speakers in Washington DC! We are very excited to teach returning students new aspects of ‘an teanga’ as well as hopefully bringing new members into the Irish language community here. For beginners, Introductory classes start this coming Thursday, while Meánrang (Intermediate) students return Wednesday, Jan 11th (limited spaces remaining). All classes run 7 – 8:20pm, agus tá fáilte roimh chách / all are welcome. Whatever your New Year’s resolutions, we wish you the best in 2017! Hopefully in 2017 this Irish proverb will prove to be true for you:

An áit a bhfuil do chroí is ann a thabharfas do chosa thú –
Your feet will bring you to where your heart is.
