Speaking Irish at Home (and at Sea!)

A chairde, we have some very enjoyable events lined up for the month of August – see below for all the details, along with dates of upcoming classes!

Gaeilge sa Bhaile:
Speaking Irish at Home

On Aug 16th we will be hosting an evening class titled ‘Gaeilge sa Bhaile‘. This is an Irish language event for parents (and their children) who are interested in learning Irish and perhaps using a few simple phrases at home. We will be covering very basic conversational Irish for the first half of the class, followed by useful home vocabulary and games for children. Non-Irish speakers are encouraged to attend this free class.
To register, click here and email us your name and the name and age of your child(ren) attending! Space is limited.
Class details: Gaeilge sa Bhaile, Sunday Aug 16th, 6 – 7:30pm in Friendship Heights (see Location for classroom details).

Upcoming Meetups

Belle Haven Marina
Belle Haven Marina

Ahoy, shipmates! For our August Meetup we will be sailing from Belle Haven Marina. This will be an excellent chance to use Irish while sailing on the Potomac, south of Alexandria, on a two-hour sail followed by a cookout! A list of appropriate nautical terminology (and commands) as Gaeilge will be provided. We will sail in a 19-foot Flying Scot rented from the marina, so be sure to go to our Meetup page and register now! We set sail on August 22nd and everyone is welcome.

Our schedule of holding Meetups on the first Wednesday of every month resumes in September. On Sept 2nd we will be holding an ‘Oíche Scannán/Movie Night’ at 7pm – mark your diary now!

New Classes in September

One of the highlights of the year is welcoming new faces into our Irish classes, and this September we will be running another 8-week Introductory Irish course. We’re also looking forward to seeing familiar faces in the Intermediate and Ard Rang classes and hearing about their tales from the summer! All students who sign up for classes will be entered into a draw for copies of an excellent booklet and CD called ‘BunGhaeilge’! This publication is an excellent resource for everyday Irish phrases and we highly recommend you get your hands on a copy!!

Register for classes by the end of August to enter our draw.
