FÉILE NA GAEILGE

Each year we host a week of activities, known as ‘Féile na Gaeilge’. This Irish language festival is open to learners, mentors and teachers from all over the world. See below for a brief summary of each festival since we began in 2017.

2024 - ar líne

22 Aibreán: Ciorcal Comhrá – seisiún comhrá oscailte do chách. Cuir aithne ar fhoghlaimeoirí eile, ó gach cearn den domhan.
23 Aibreán: Aisfhreagraí – plé agus cleachtadh ar aisfhreagraí agus nathanna cainte ar nós ‘dáiríre’, ‘muise’, ‘ná habair é’, srl. atá nádúrtha agus tábhachtach sa chomhrá i nGaeilge.
24 Aibreán: Corp, Anam, Teanga, le Jenny Ní Ruiséil – a discussion and guided contemplation on the link between language and landscape.
25 Aibreán: Céard é do Bhreosla? le Diarmuid Lyng – díreoimid ar na háiteanna as a thagann inspioráid. Bainfimid úsáid as piosaí ceoil agus sean scéalta chun tuiscint níos doimhne a fháil ar luach na dteanga.

2023 - ar líne

24 Aibreán: Spanish, through Irish – learn basic conversational Spanish, through Irish! 
25 Aibreán: Agallamh Beirte – oral readings of humorous rhyming conversations.
26 Aibreán: Bealtaine – learn about songs, stories and folk customs related to the festival.
27 Aibreán: Oíche na mBall – give a 2-3 minute presentation on any topic of your choice.
28 Aibreán: Tráth na gCeist – test your knowledge at our annual Quiz Night!

2022 - ar líne

18 Aibreán: Stair an Cheoil Thraidisiúnta Ghaelach – an exploration of the roots of Irish traditional music, starting with the earliest examples of instruments in the archaeological record.

19 Aibreán: Naughty Irish Night – picking up, breaking up and making up, as Gaeilge! This light-hearted session will focus on words and phrases not usually covered in Irish classes.
20 Aibreán: An Introduction to Japanese, trí Ghaeilge – we’ll teach basic conversational phrases in Japanese, through Irish! 
21 Aibreán: Oíche na mBall – give a 2-3 minute presentation on any topic of your choice. 
22 Aibreán: Tráth na gCeist – a fun quiz and an opportunity for all to meet and chat online!

21 Aibreán: Beginner Comhrá – conversation practise for introductory (A0) and beginner-level (A1) learners. 
22 Aibreán: Oíche na mBall – give a 2-3 minute presentation on any topic of your choice. 
23 Aibreán: Tasc an Lae – participate in the ‘Task of the Day’ via our social media channels!
24 Aibreán: PopUp Gaeltacht! – tagaigí agus bígí ag caint le chéile! An opportunity for all to meet and chat online. BYOB!

2019 - Washington DC

15 Aibreán: Oíche Scannáin (Movie Night) – screening of Irish language movie suitable for all age groups (with English subtitles). Refreshments served.
16 Aibreán: Oíche Cheoil (Music Night) – a night of music discussion, including a performance from Cór DC members.
17 Aibreán: Naughty Irish Night – curses, insults or making out, we got you covered! 18+ only, not for the faint-hearted 😉
18 Aibreán: Oíche na Mac Léinn (Student Night) – beidh cur i láthair ó na mic léinn atá ag freastal ar ranganna i rith na bliana. Student presentations on topics of their choice, followed by individual mock oral exams for TEG participants.
19 Aibreán: PopUp Gaeltacht! We finish off our festival week with a social event at Hoban’s in Dupont Circle. The aim of the Pop Up Gaeltacht is to give Irish speakers and friends of the language an opportunity to share a few drinks and speak the language. Fáilte roimh chách!

2018 - Washington DC

1 Aibreán: Ceardlann Amhránaíochta na Cásca (Easter Song Workshop). Following on from our very successful Christmas event, Liam Ó Casaide is back with another much-anticipated workshop in Irish song, this time on Easter Sunday! We will be covering a range of old classics and newer songs, followed by refreshments and a chance to chat with fellow language learners and teachers.
2 Aibreán: Naughty Irish Night – curses, insults or making out, we got you covered! 18+ only, not for the faint-hearted 😉
3 Aibreán: Oíche na Mac Léinn (Student Night) – student presentations on topics of their choice, followed by individual mock oral exams for TEG A1 participants.
4 Aibreán: Tóraíocht Taisce (Treasure Hunt) – join us as we take pics, post videos, answer questions and explore ‘as Gaeilge’ in downtown Washington DC!
5 Aibreán: Oíche Scannáin (Movie Night) – screening of Irish language movie suitable for all age groups (with English subtitles). Refreshments served.

2017 - Washington DC

8 Aibreán: An Club Bricfeasta – comhrá session for advanced students with Múinteoir Justin Foley.
9 Aibreán: 1-Day Introductory Intensive – this popular class is a great introductory day for new students! Múinteoir Rónán will be guiding the class through a range of basic topics and conversation. Space limited.
9 Aibreán: Amhráin Ghaeilge – Liam Ó Casaide is back with another much-anticipated workshop in Irish song. We will be covering a range of old classics and newer songs, followed by refreshments and a chance to chat with fellow language learners and teachers. Early registration highly advised.
10 Aibreán: Oíche Bhriathra – Múinteoir Quinton Beck will give a grammar masterclass on the ups and downs of Irish verbs. Class takes place at our new location, One Dupont. This class is a fantastic opportunity for all your language questions and as preparation for our upcoming 8-week grammar course at this location.
11 Aibreán: A Night of Craic agus Cré na Cille! William Brennan, Associate Editor at The Atlantic, will give an entertaining talk on Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s landmark novel, ‘Cré na Cille’. This presentation will be based on William’s 2016 article in The New Yorker, ‘The Irish Novel That’s So Good People Were Scared To Translate It’. Followed by the documentary, ‘Rí an Fhocail’, about the author’s life and work – not to be missed!
12 Aibreán: Oíche Scannáin (Movie Night) – screening of Irish language movie suitable for all age groups (with English subtitles). Refreshments served.
13 Aibreán: Refresher Class – join us for a quick refresher on some language basics as we go over some simple topics and try to get your Irish all shiny and brand ‘nua’ again. All students welcome – great chance for some much-needed revision and practice before tomorrow’s…
