Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú?! Tá súil againn go bhfuil tú maith! Here in the online Irish community, we’re looking forward to Saturday’s creative writing workshop, Scríbhneoireacht Chruthaitheach, with award-winning author Fionntán de Brún!

Fionntán de Brún

Fionntán de Brún is a Professor of Modern Irish, literary scholar and creative writer. His most recent novel, ‘Béal na Péiste’, was awarded the first prize in the novel category at the Oireachtas na Gaeilge Literary Awards last year.

In Saturday’s workshop, Fionntán will speak about his journey into writing, answer questions and read extracts from his books, as Gaeilge. Ná cailligí amach, a chairde!

Gain insights into the creative writing process, as Fionntán de Brún discusses his award-winning ‘Litir ó mo Mháthair Altrama agus Scéalta Eile’ (2005) and ‘Béal na Péiste’ (2023).

Observed around the world, St. Patrick’s Day is a chance for everyone to embrace the Irish culture, regardless of where they are or what their heritage might be. It’s a day to don yourself in green, enjoy a parade if your town has one, and grab a pint of Guinness, if you’re so inclined. However, these common activities aren’t the only tactics to “be a little Irish” on March 17th. Instead, there are plenty of opportunities to authentically delve deeper into the Irish culture. Perhaps one of the best ways to partake in the tradition of St. Patrick’s Day, and honor the Irish, is to learn a little more about them.
