Member Profile: Dalton Miller
There are two Dalton Millers. Which one do you know?
After dabbling in the language with Duolingo and several books, Dalton was invited to a Comhrá session of Let’s Learn Irish. Since then, he’s been full speed ahead, enjoying the minutiae and particulars of Irish. Dalton finds Irish unique among other languages, from the grammar to the pronunciation, and enjoys the intellectual stimulation gained in pursuing it. Eventually he noticed that one develops a second personality when speaking a new language, having conversations that he wouldn’t have in English, and connecting with people who he wouldn’t have had the chance to otherwise.
While some people dream in a language after having reached a certain fluency, for Dalton it was the opposite. Once he began learning Irish he dreamt that his ancestors spoke to him in the language, and he could understand them…until he woke up, anyway. His grandparents being from Ireland, this dream has continued throughout his learning experience, further convincing him that learning Irish is the right thing for him to be doing.
