The Months of the Year in Irish

The Irish word for month is “mí” and the plural form of that is “míonna”. 

The months of the year in Irish are as follows:

Eanáir – January
Feabhra – February
Márta – March
Aibreáin – April
Bealtaine – May
Meitheamh – June
Iúil – July
Lúnasa – August
Meán Fómhair – September
Deireadh Fómhair – October
Samhain – November
Nollaig – December

If we want to say “the month of January”, for example, it requires us to change the words around just a small bit:

mí Eanáir – the month of January
mí Feabhra – the month of February
mí an Mhárta – the month of March
mí Aibreáin – the month of April
mí na Bealtaine – the month of May
mí an Mheithimh – the month of June
mí Iúil – the month of July
mí Lúnasa – the month of August
mí Mheán Fomhair – the month of September
mí Dheireadh Fomhair – the month of October
mí na Samhna – the month of November
mí na Nollag – the month of December
